Spark of Hope #1 – Where It Began

Hope is like a spark; if the conditions are right, it can spread like wildfire. Hope feeds the soul, ignites passion, and inspires others. A world without it is like a world without possibility. Tucked inside each of us is a child-like spark that says: never forget to dream, play and imagine. HOPE is the extraordinary spark that says Huge Outcomes are Possible Everyday! ©2011

Every week, I’m going to share a spark of hope. A single moment can make a lifetime of difference to someone else. I hope that my one-minute stories will make a difference in your life. I also hope that they inspire you to play, dream and imagine—for the possibilities are endless.

Spark of Hope #1 – My first children’s book was a gift to my best friend who’d just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Bound on pink paper, I read When Your Teacher Has Cancer to her 2nd grade students as she prepared for surgery. That was the day I met (then) 8-year old, Lily. She quickly became a spark of hope in my life. I’ll never forget the first thing Lily said to me: “you’re such a blessing in Miss Kennedy’s life!” Every visit thereafter, Lily has made a point to bless me in some way.

I truly believe God sent Lily to me. My interactions with her continually inspire me to see the world through a child’s eyes. Below is a snapshot of the painting Lily gave to me during a follow-on visit to her classroom:

  1. Another great idea with your new Spark of Hope! That one minute, a tiny portion of time, will no doubt convey your message of hope to many yet the emotional spark will linger long after in our hearts and minds. Thank you for all that you do.
